Marlin L. "Buzz" Hefti
Buzz Hefti joined Van Scoyoc Associates, Inc. (VSA) as Vice President in 2002 after service as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs in the George W. Bush administration. In this capacity, he provided advice to both the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary of Defense on all legislative matters.

Hefti brings over thirty-three years of experience in the legislative and public affairs areas of defense, aerospace, energy, space and aviation.  He is widely regarded for his ability to influence policy, secure funding, develop new federal business and facilitate industry partnerships. His clients include small businesses through Fortune 50 companies.

Prior to his service in the Department of Defense, Hefti worked for fourteen years as Vice President, Government Relations, for Honeywell International. During his tenure with Honeywell (and AlliedSignal/Bendix) he was responsible for developing and executing the legislative strategies of three businesses, totaling over $10 billion, maintaining and improving their competitive edge with the government, while coordinating operating units and managing the aerospace lobbying staff. In addition, he managed the legislative support of major Department of Defense programs and of key NASA, Department of Energy and Federal Aviation Administration programs.

Previously, as a defense lobbyist for The Boeing Company, he was responsible for defense and space issues as well as general legislation for major commercial aviation programs. He has served as national security advisor to U.S. Senator John Warner, R-Virginia. A career U.S. Marine Corps officer, he also served as liaison officer to the U.S. House of Representatives while on the staff of the Secretary of the Navy from 1977 through 1980, prior to which he spent three years as director of national news media for the Marine Corps.  He is a Vietnam veteran, and was present in the Pentagon the morning of September 11, 2001.

He sits on the Board of Directors of the Center for Security Policy, the Advisory Board of Our Military Kids (OMK), is active in the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation.  He is a highly recognized mentor to members of the military making the transition to a civilian career. 

Hefti holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Southern California, a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Iowa, and has completed Leadership Strategies for Senior Executives, Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.
