Michael W. Adcock
Vice President
Michael W. Adcock has more than 26 years hands-on experience in the Washington policy-making process. Trusted relationships and hard-earned knowledge are the cornerstone of his work philosophy and key ingredients of his long record of success for his clients. He joined Van Scoyoc Associates Inc. as Vice President in 1996 after serving almost 14 years in senior level positions in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Mr. Adcock served for six years as Chief of Staff to Congressman Bud Cramer of Alabama and for eight years as Press Secretary and Legislative Assistant to Congressman Ronnie Flippo of Alabama. Rep. Cramer served on the Appropriations Committee and previously on the Science and Transportation Committees. Rep. Flippo was a member of the Ways and Means Committee and the Science and Transportation Committees. During his time on Capitol Hill, Mr. Adcock worked extensively on budget, appropriations and authorization issues related to the NASA, the Department of Defense, electric utilities, higher education, health care, transportation and infrastructure, and tax and revenue legislation.
Prior to coming to Capitol Hill, he worked for four years for the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Johnson Environmental and Energy Center, located in one of the nation’s largest centers for Federal research and development.
For the past 12 years he has brought his broad experience and knowledge of the public policy-making process to bear on the priorities of VSA clients such as the University of Alabama System (composed of the University of Alabama, UAB and UAH), the Medical University of South Carolina, DRS Technologies, and a host of other clients seeking to impact Federal policy.
His clients have praised his role in establishing or improving a Federal relations process within their organizations characterized by its professionalism and thorough vetting of projects and priorities. His knowledge of the legislative process and his long history of involvement in that process give his clients opportunities to accomplish even the most difficult goals.
In today’s era of greater scrutiny and transparency of the legislative process, his clients found they were already meeting or exceeding the new standards because of the high level of justification their internal process already had in place.
Mr. Adcock’s combined 30 years work experience for a university, for the House of Representatives, and for clients at one of Washington’s premier government relations firms, makes him ideally suited for organizations, both public and private, wanting to have a positive impact in Washington with a high degree of professionalism and integrity.
