Nolan J. Walters

Director of Communications

Nolan Walters has spent his entire life in the communications business – as a journalist, graduate school teacher, Director of Programs for a national journalism foundation, and now, as Director of Communications for Van Scoyoc Associates.

“I am fascinated by the act of conveying information from one brain to another, regardless of the medium,” he said.

At VSA, Mr. Walters’ duties touch on all aspects of the firm’s communications. He is the principal contact for media interested in the company.

Mr. Walters joined VSA in 2008, following almost eight years as Program Director for the National Press Foundation. There he created and conducted multiple programs and seminars for journalists in a variety of formats and on a range of topics. Mr. Walters conducted programs throughout the United States and abroad in such countries as Canada, Spain, and Kenya, working directly with hundreds of journalists in all types of media.

For more than a decade, Mr. Walters taught graduate-level writing classes for Johns Hopkins University, primarily at the university’s Washington center.

Mr. Walters’ work in education followed a 25-year career as a Reporter and Editor, with the last 15 years as a Correspondent in the Washington Bureau for Knight Ridder Newspapers, then the country’s second-largest chain of newspapers. There he covered all aspects of the Federal Government. He holds a Master of Arts Degree in English Literature, with a focus on Old English poetry, from the University of Georgia.
